The Vendée Globe has a proud tradition of competitors going to one another’s aid in extraordinary acts of bravery and successful mid ocean rescues.

The first Vendée Globe in 1989 featured one of the most remarkable rescues in the event’s, did not right itself. LoÏck Peyron came to the rescue, sailing his Open 60 to Poupon’s position, taking a line attached to her masthead and literally pulling the other yacht upright. If that weren’t incredible enough, Peyron even managed to capture righting Poupon’s yacht on film. He went on to take 2nd place.
