On December 21, a tweet emerged accusing Alec Baldwin’s wife of hamming up her Spanish heritage – and it quickly went viral. “You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person,” read the post, placing the star at the centre of an intense cultural appropriation scandal.

“It’s just seemed so strange to me that no one had ever come out and said it,” the Twitter user (who chose to remain anonymous) told The New York Times of her decision to share what she claims was one of New York’s worst-kept secrets.
