fter the excitement of seeing my name appear on the logbook of an XJ40, and after the stockpile of parts required to recommission the car landed at my workshop, I sent my new Jaguar’s particulars to Paul Keating, who many of you will know from his sterling work keeping tabs on all surviving examples of the model for the XJ40 Register. I was keen to find out if the 3.6-litre Solent Blue Sovereign was already known to Paul; and though he confirmed it was listed on his 105,000-strong database, details were few, not least because “the car doesn’t seem to have been out for a long time”.
