Has ‘cancel culture’ GONE TOO FAR?

We’ve all heard the furore about ‘cancel culture’. It’s a buzz word bandied about by younger generations, and some celebs are getting in a tizz about it. But what does it mean?

Essentially it’s an extension of online shaming. Public figures and media personalities can find themselves unfollowed, unfriended and boycotted for expressing an unpopular, questionable or controversial opinion. It can affect careers, fans, viewing figures and sales.

And while we must not tolerate racism, homophobia or any form of discrimination, cancel culture is creeping into the everyday.

Some believe it’s a means to hold influential people to account for their questionable views and stamp out discrimination.
