Illustrator Connie Maoshan grew up just around the corner from above the market; it had such tall ceilings and big windows,” she says. “I chose to draw this scene because of the beautiful facing Prince Edward Road West: they were built in 1932 by a Belgian-French company, Crédit Foncier d’Extrême-Orient. You can still see the beautiful art deco details there today.” Although she now lives in a different part of the city, Maoshan visits Prince Edward regularly. “I like to buy fruit trees that are grown in pots rather than cut flowers,” she says. “Right now there’s one loquat tree that I want to buy. I’ll have to go and get it soon.”
