Remember the time
They’d met in the Melbourne advertising scene and had been playing around smoky folk clubs and wine bars for a couple of years, when, at the famous Abbey Road Studios. The Seekers became the first Australian band to top an international chart when that song hit #1 in the UK. Within weeks, it was also a hit in Australia and the US, and the band was named Best New Group at the British Top Of The Pops Awards. A string of hits followed: ; ; (which knocked The Rolling Stones’ from #1); and finally , with which they became the first Aussie group to reach #1 in the US. In 1967, all four Seekers were named Australians of the Year. They went their separate ways in 1968, but reformed in ’93 and have been recording and performing together ever since. Always proud and thoughtful Aussies, Bruce co-wrote the beautiful song in 1987, while Judith has written a heartfelt and inclusive new set of lyrics to the national anthem.
