After the dust had settled in 1953 when Harry Ferguson sold out to Massey-Harris he continued to develop Harry Ferguson Research Ltd based at Toll Bar End, Coventry. Four-wheel drive systems were at the forefront of things with famous people like Freddie Dixon of pre-war Brooklands Riley fame and Major Tony Rolt, the man who made it all happen for the 4wd system and a man of great determination like Ferguson himself.

This all lead to the 1960 Ferguson Climax P99 4wd car, which is the only Formula One racing car to win an F1 race with such a system. The Ferguson 4wd system went on to be used in many applications, including Audi’s Quattro rally cars.
