UNDER PRESSURE
Given I wear glasses I nearly didn’t apply. But the application form didn’t mention vision requirements so I filled it out and applied anyway. Lo and behold, a few weeks later I’d been accepted subject to passing a medical exam. There were well over 500 applicants – 150 were accepted.
Doctor Emma was thorough and I whizzed through her preliminary tests until she asked me to read the bottom letters from the wall chart. Without glasses. Busted. I fessed up.
“Sorry Doc, I can barely read the top line let alone the bottom one, is there any point in continuing?”
She laughed: “No problem, as long as you can read the bottom line with your glasses on that’s fine.”
I walked out dancing on air.
