At 154km long (96 miles) and with over 3,000m (10,000ft) of climbing, the West Highland Way is no walk in the park.
This iconic long-distance route starts from Milngavie, a short distance above Glasgow, and wends its way north past lochs and mountains, taking in the full splendour of the Scottish Highlands, before eventually reaching Fort William. Most walkers take about 10 days to complete it, so riding it in one day is a feat in itself – but there are some for whom even that isn’t enough. This hardy bunch have quietly been battling for records since a 26-year-old Rab Wardell set the first Fastest Known Time (FKT) back in 2011, finishing in just 12hrs 10mins.
