Just like every writer has a favourite pen, pencil or notebook, every quilter has a favourite thread, needle, and notions. It’s important to try things out for yourself so that you can find the materials that feel the best for you, but it’s always nice to have a starting point to help you find what you’re looking for. Here’s a list of the basic hand quilting necessities and my personal recommendations.

When hand quilting it is best to use a cotton thread because it’s strong enough to hold your quilt sandwich together, nice and soft for snuggling under and relatively easy to maintain as it can be washed along with the quilt without much worry.
