“The Mortirolo in Italy is seriously bad. Alpe d’Huez always stands out at the Tour with all the crazy fans, and the hills are pretty hard back home in Wales because the roads are so heavy and undulating, but the hardest climb is the Mortirolo. The Giro d'Italia organisers just want to torture us, basically. Even just in the grupetto, riding up it was savage. It is so steep and so hard. It is one of those climbs where you just cannot enjoy a single second of it. You feel sick when you get near it and not even a compact [chainset] helps you much.
