ASK Grant Chitty what got him interested in cars and you are sure to be given a myriad of reasons starting with his car nut brother Geoff crewing on Albert Gorge’s #95 stock car at Stratford. Also being an avid fan of Albert and Gary Scott’s #6 Stock Car, plus reading all of Geoff’s American car magazines with articles on people like Richard Petty, A.J. Foyt, and Dan Gurney certainly helped. Then with a later transition to NZ Hot Rod Magazine, it didn’t take much for Grant to “Catch the Bug.
Barely into his High School years, he was on a school holiday in Torbay and whilst walking to the dairy, sighted a green Fiat Topolino sitting in a carport, not ten houses from where he was staying. Yep, Pete Lodge’s Baloo in all it’s pavement pounding glory.
