Jami supports SIP, which is used for VoIP services. Click Advanced on the main welcome screen to log into your account. Note, however, that you can only contact other SIP users via your SIP account – it’s completely separate to Jami’s own communication protocols.
The new version of Jami now supports plugins, so expect to see third-party developers take full advantage. For now, you can make use of the GreenScreen plugin to modify your background during a call. Everything’s handled locally to preserve network bandwidth, but you’ll need a NVIDIA card (and drivers) to take full advantage.
Your Jami account details exist only on your own devices. If you remove your account from all of them you’ll lose access to it and your contacts list. Make sure you make at least one backup
