GEAR OF THE YEAR 2020

Last year was one that will live long in the memory, for reasons we’re all too aware of. But on the flip side of 2020’s unforeseen hardships, it gave us more time than we’d ever had before to spend locked away in our studios, focusing on expressing ourselves through sound. The pace of new tech releases didn’t slow despite global and industry distress and, across software, hardware and instruments, we reviewed a wide spectrum of what’s been launched in our pages.

For our Gear of the Year awards, we asked you to vote in 13 categories online, with the results solidified by an evenly split combination of reader votes and expert opinion from the MusicTech team. The list collates the year just gone’s most popular big-hitters and draws attention to those products that deserved more of it upon release. Above all, it’s on these pages that we pay homage to the pinnacle of 2020’s music technology. It’s a year we’d like to forget but its gear deserves to be remembered.
