NINE months after the grandstands last reverberated with the unmistakable buzz of a crowd, the “behind closed doors” signs came down and buoyed-up spectators filed through the turnstiles to enjoy two days of action at the home of jump racing.

These were the first signs that the heart and soul of the sport is returning and the headline story to come out of Saturday did plenty to fan those flames.
