Volkswagen’s enormous 5.0-litre V10 diesel engine is a larger version of their PD engine, and with ten cylinders, two turbos and 307bhp at the flywheel, it enables the Touareg to accelerate from stationary to 60mph in a blistering 7.8 seconds.
