Councils received up to £8m in a year from motorists driving in bus lanes
London aside, councils around the country have fined motorists to the total sum of millions in penalty charge notices (PCN) for driving in bus lanes. The research, obtained by comparethemarket.com as part of a freedom of information request, found Manchester to have received £8,389,610 from over 380,000 bus lane PCNs, topping the table above second placed Glasgow with £2,874,720 from over 89,000 charges.
Boroughs within London were also taken into account as separate records due to the increase of PCNs generated from the Capital. Worst offenders were Lambeth generating £2,731832 from 41,628 notices, Ealing generating £1,822,268 from 33,713 notices, and Kingston-upon-Thames generating £1650,300 from 23,981 PCNs.
