Ford collaborated with Fiat when they developed the second-generation of their highly successful Ka, which was launched in 2008, sharing many components with the Fiat 500, and remaining in production until 2016. The supermini Ka first appeared in 1996 and quickly gained a disappointing reputation for rusty sills and many other cost-cutting traits, although with sales of almost 1.5 million, perhaps nobody seemed to care if these Kas rotted to pieces within a few years. It seems this second-generation model is better, but on the 2009 1.2 Studio model we serviced, the entire rear suspension was a dark shade of brown and the chassis legs were dripping with water.
All Ka models of this generation are powered by a 1242cc engine, which is also fitted to the likes of the Fiat Panda and 500. Even the spark plugs fitted to our Ka were labelled NGK Fiat Lancia.
