Supermini service
There’s something traditional about servicing Hyundai’s i10 supermini, especially the model range that was manufactured between 2008 and 2013 and more so for those that have the largest engine of them all, a timing-chain-driven 1248cc twin-cam petrol engine that produces an impressive 78bhp, yet returns over 55mpg. Everything is easy to access and seems straightforward to service. Take the spark plugs, which Haynes recommend should be changed every two years. They’re underneath the air filter housing, which is secured with a handful of 10mm bolts, so the job can be finished in less than half an hour. Or the seemingly finger-crunching auxiliary drivebelt, accessed from underneath and wound on/off via the offside front wheelarch, providing you can undo the 10mm bolts for a plastic cover.
The little i10 is therefore perhaps a perfect car for someone to own and cut their teeth on basic maintenance and servicing, especially with guidance from a workshop manual.
