“I can’t find anything,” laughs the affable dressage rider.
The two greatest accolades of Spencer’s competitive life are here as well, but not encased in opaque wrapping; his Rio Olympic team silver medal and World Equestrian Games (WEG) team bronze are framed and propped up against a wall, along with miscellaneous pictures that await a hook and a nail and someone wielding a hammer.
“My medals used to be kept in the downstairs loo at our old house.”
Spencer has only just moved into this rented property in Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire, which he shares with his husband, fellow dressage rider Darren Hicks, and unpacking boxes hasn’t exactly found its way to the top of his agenda. Anyway, the plan is to stay here for only six months while they search for the perfect home to buy
