Sussex-based eventer SAM PENN made her five-star debut at Burghley in 2012. She enjoys producing young event horses and teaching riders of all levels. Like us, Sam battles through the winter months but motivates herself to ride in all but the worst of weathers to keep her horses healthy and happy.

WINTER DOESN’T HAVE to be a time of hibernation for you and your horse. Yes, it’s cold and (probably) wet outside; the evenings are darker earlier meaning opportunities to ride in daylight are restricted. All what you want to achieve and how you’re going to get it. There’s no time to trot around in countless circles or wander along a country lane without purpose.
