THE dock in the Durban High Court was empty when closing arguments were heard in the trial against a Verulam stepfather accused of rape.
The man, accused of repeatedly raping his stepdaughter, instead waited in the grills while the State and the defence submitted their final arguments on Thursday.
The 45-year-old accused will also not be present for the judgment, which is expected to be handed down next month.
He will have to find out the verdict via his legal representative.
This comes after he lost his temper during cross-examination by Cheryl Naidu, a senior State advocate.
She consistently produced evidence in support of allegations which he repeatedly denied.
