T IS NOT ONLY USEFUL BUT I important that anyone who operates a boat has at least a basic understanding of the meaning of various types of navigation buoys used around the coast.

In the event of GPS failure and the lack of a paper chart in an unknown area, the buoyage will clearly indicate which is and is not the safe way to proceed.

Navigation buoys are put in place to assist boats to make safe passage to and from a port, harbour, an estuary or along a particular stretch of coastline. They indicate both safe waters, namely
