RACING CAREER

His first start came on New Year’s Day, 1880 in the Normanby Stakes when ridden by Billy Yeomans for his trainer, Tom Brown. He was trained on the private grounds of Grand Flaneur’s owner and breeder, the Hon. W. A. Long at Chipping Norton. These grounds were later to become the Warwick Farm Racecourse. Reports suggest that Grand Flaneur was not an overly attractive colt. He was said to have a very honest looking head, a light neck, and very deep chest.

It was the second major 2yo race of the season and included the Maribyrnong Plate winner, Palmyra by Maribyrnong out of The Fawn who started the even money
