The sleepy cane-farming town of Mossman is quickly establishing itself as the home for one of Australia’s toughest enduros. Run by the Townsville Enduro Club, Mossmaniacs is a cross-country event held in the rainforest-covered hills north of Cairns and the technical nature of the terrain and five-hour duration make it perilously close to a hard enduro.

It is a true test of a rider’s physical and mental ability, with the event consistently having a DNF rate of over 20 percent, and some wet years produce double that. A large number of these are simply due to exhaustion from the constant grind against the technical rainforest layout.
