Virtual motocross
It’s been a year when most things that could go wrong did, and the MX Nationals was just one of those things. While the United States of Trump managed to cobble together AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross championships and Europe forged ahead with MXGP, albeit with repeat rounds in available countries, our nation shut down for almost everything but AFL, NRL and netball.
Our factory motocross teams and privateers were ready to go but weren’t allowed out of their own backyards. The best motorcycle athletes in the country kept themselves fighting fit but, as the year dragged on with state and even city border closures, the MX Nats were finally killed off, with most of the MY20 factory bikes not even firing a single shot in anger.
Two of the most accomplished race teams, CDR Yamaha and Penrite Honda, were unlucky enough to be stuck in lockdown central, Victoria. But all was not lost, while ADB waited for our MY21 test bikes to arrive, Yarrive Konsky called ADB Ed Mitch, offering up Brett Metcalfe’s Honda for a test.
