The world of dongle video streamers is fiercely competitive. Prices are low and app offerings high, but there’s more than just money and streaming services to separate them. The new Chromecast with Google TV doesn’t add any major services that its predecessors didn’t already have. It isn't cheaper either – for this version, Google has prioritised usability and performance instead.

A remote control was the most requested addition to the previous incarnation, so Google has introduced a voice-enabled one for those who would rather search for content with the help of Google Assistant.

And when you do, you’ll find that the Chromecast now comes with a UI of its own called Google TV – a more recommendation-centric face for the Android TV experience, and set to come to all Android TV devices by 2022.
