LIFE LESSONS

Reading about the Revd John ‘Jack’ Russell (Praise be: the creed of horse and hound, 18 November) reminded me of the vicar of our parish in my native county of Suffolk who also “joined in with the passions of his flock”.

At the age of 16, some 60-plus years ago, I worked for him on weekends and holidays to earn some pocket money while studying at college. He was a larger-than-life character with tales to tell of his time overseas with the missions and the like.
