Make some noise
Increasing the ISO on your camera is not something you’ll just do on dark winter days, but longer nights and the lure of indoor photos means that many of us invariably spend more time shooting in low light at this time of year.
The trade-off to increasing the ISO is an increase in image noise. It’s like cranking up the volume on an old detuned radio, where distortions and static are amplified to the point that details are overwhelmed. The quality of Canon’s EOS sensor design and signal processing means that noise in an image is unlikely to be noticeable until you go past ISO1600. It’s more problematic at the top end of the sensitivity range, where details will become indistinct.
