What constitutes a successful British Rally Championship? It’s a question championship manager Iain Campbell even puts to himself as he speaks to Motorsport News about the latest chapter in series history. Campbell has been the man at the helm since the BRC relaunched in 2016 after a sabbatical so is the right man to quiz. But more on that particular question later.
First, some recent history. Since 2016, a new era of the championship began and adopted the incredibly popular R5 formula, welcoming four-wheel-drive cars back to the fold – they had been outlawed from 2012-14.
