Hunting Overnight
There is no doubt that we often seem to be a bit ‘time poor’ these days and longer trips can be beyond what we can do too regularly. The answer to this, as well as day hunting, is more local overnighters. An overnight trip can put you inside good hunting country, beyond the range of the day hunt and it will give you two hunts at peak time.
Back in the day when I was at school I used to work on a Friday evening and then roar off after work and in to the hills, often arriving at camp at a time when there was almost no point going to sleep before a morning hunt. Not much sleep for two days would follow and then by Sunday I was absolutely shattered. At some point the penny dropped and when working late on Fridays, I started heading in on the Saturday and out on Sunday. I seemed to shoot just as many deer and felt better for the experience.
When I look back at what I took in for an overnighter all those years ago, I shake my head. My 75 litre pack was almost full. These days I carry a lot less. I am not as young as I used to be and age and wisdom
