TALK ABOUT BEING worth the wait. Saturday was the 244th straight day since MotoGP last went racing, the longest stint without premier class racing since 1986. Just as well, as 2020’s first outing contained enough drama to make up for the past four months, and then some.
First there was a long-awaited first victory for French wonderkid Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT), who, at 21 years and 90 days, became the eighth-youngest victor in premier-class history. There was an inspired showing from Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), who showed plenty of zeal in the stifling 37-degree heat to claim a podium finish three weeks after fracturing his left collarbone in a motocross crash.
