Laps, not lapsed
A racetrack is a hell of a lot safer; no inattentive drivers, no large vehicles, no police, lots of run-off
Regarding the news story on page 16 of AMCN Vol 69 No 25, not all so-called ‘lapsed’ riders are lapsed. We just prefer not to ride the roads, and don’t have a registered bike. This is not to say we don’t own bikes. Far from it, in fact.
I personally gave up riding the road in 2006 after putting my 2001 Kawasaki ZX-9R under a milk tanker. From then on I decided to ride and race only on the track. The passion still burns strong – though addiction is the correct term – I just got sick of the hassles associated with riding on the road.
A racetrack is a hell of a lot safer; there are no inattentive drivers, no large vehicles, no police, lots of run-off and, most of the time, everyone is going in the same direction. And there is an ambo parked there if you really get it wrong, perfect.
I am 65 years old now and still loving it. I’ve never been without at least one bike since I was 12.
