Rea hits his sixth

JONATHAN REA’S LATEST

WorldSBK championship win on his KRT Kawasaki may have been his best one but the ending was not a classic weekend that many had expected. His record-breaking title aside, this will be an unforgettable Estoril for many others, with action to spare and incidents aplenty.

It has been a weird season in the time of Covid-19, and it ended with a mixture of flourishes and flatness for some of Superbike racing’s main participants.

People could have bet their shirt on Rea winning at least one race in Portugal to – not just ensure his straight sixth championship win – but do it in the assured style we have come to expect from him and his incredibly consistent team. Maybe it was over-expectation for all parties but Rea never even made it onto the podium in Estoril at a ‘new’
