The hexagon-shaped Galle Fort is so compact that you could zip about the whole place in a few hours – but it’s worth lingering at least a few days to soak up its charm. The UNESCO World Heritage Site sits on a peninsula on the west coast of Sri Lanka, 125km south of the capital Colombo. The area’s colourful history dates back to its days as a port, when it exported cinnamon from as early as AD125.
