DISNEY+ Just when you begin to worry that Pixar’s getting stuck in a groove, you can trust director Pete Docter to jazz things up a little. Four of the last six Pixar movies have been sequels, while Onward, the company’s last original entry, felt very much like Pixar-by-numbers.

But Docter, the (2009) and (2015), returns here with another ambitious animated movie that creates new riffs from familiar rhythms. A bit, indeed, like jazz, the musical genre that powers the film, right from the adorably shambolic version of the opening Disney fanfare.
