After several wet nights, the river burst and spilled into the low fields at the bottom of the farm. For all that this land was reclaimed by drains and a series of bunds and bankings over the past 200 years, it always feels soft underfoot.
Even on the driest summer days, the tall reeds wave and turn around the ditches as if to remind us that human intervention has created something rather temporary. Without constant digging, clearing and adjustment
