ALTERNATIVES TO CONSIDER

CONTEST 35S

Launched by Dutch builder, Conyplex, in 1989 to replace the original Contest 35, the aft-cockpit 35S was once referred to by Yachting Monthly’s then chief boat tester as ‘the best cruising yacht of her times’.

She is heavily built by hand using solid GRP below the waterline and end-grain balsa core above and in her decks. The deck to hull join is bolted and over-bonded for maximum integrity and there’s a solid rubbing strake some 200mm below the bulwark. She also has hardwood stringers and floors bonded into a rigid framework.
