HERITAGE HARVESTS

Whenever I’ve visited Peter Brown’s home in Shropshire, it feels like I’m entering a little piece of paradise. Last time I visited it was springtime, and Peter and Linda Brown were planting potatoes with their Ferguson potato planter. Th is time it is autumn, and the soft golden sun blesses us with a perfect day for lift ing potatoes.

Seasons change

These are not the same potatoes I helped to plant. Several years have passed since I last visited my Shropshire friends, and many harvests have taken place because Peter and Linda really specialise in vintage harvests. With an impressive array of tractors and cultivating and harvesting equipment, all vintage and classic Peter and Linda manage a hay harvest, a grain harvest, and a potato harvest.

“I try to use different tractors and machinery each time, so everything gets used at some point,” says retired police vehicle mechanic Peter, who along with wife Linda keeps around 10 acres upon which grow potatoes and vegetables, hay, and wheat. The hay, the straw and some grain are sold, as Peter and Linda don’t keep livestock,
