A 2017 experiment found a median of 17,032 bacterial gene copies from 27 phones. Warmth is vital for bacteria to grow, and thanks to our social obsession with our phones – on average touching our phones 2,617 times every day – bacteria on our phones stay at the perfect temperature to grow.
