HEDD AUDIO HEDDphone

Headphones come in all shapes and sizes. The new HEDDphone is a large open-back over-ear design. It has a detachable cable, soft exchangeable earpads and can be adjusted to fit all users. And that’s pretty much where these headphones’ similarity to all other models ends.

Like microphones, headphones are transducers and can be designed with various technological principles. Most common, certainly for headphones, is the dynamic type, which work rather like a Shure SM58 mic (or similar) in reverse. Electrostatic headphones are rare outside hi-fi and audiophile hi-fi circles, and operate along the same lines as condenser mics. A third option, planar-magnetic headphones, act just as ribbon microphones do, and are a type of dynamic mic, only the planar’s operating principle is electromagnetic induction.
