The announcement that the Kyalami 9 Hour was once again on the calendar to wrap up this year’s COVID-19-curtailed Intercontinental GT Challenge would have raised neck hairs among fans who witnessed the thrilling final hour of last year’s race.
A typical Highveld deluge swamped the circuit at around 8 pm, to such an extent that it looked as if the race might have to be red-flagged with two hours to go to the scheduled 10 pm finish. However, the 22 cars still running at that stage formed up behind the safety car and circulated in what seemed like an endless, rumbling procession
