Broads versus downs

Returning from a few days’ holiday in East Norfolk I found myself comparing that part of England with the downlands of West Sussex, where most of my shooting is done.
’Twixt Norwich and coast lie miles and miles of flat terrain, lush water meadows dotted with ancient windmills, and vast marshes intersected by slow, sluggish but picturesque rivers. These rivers and the great shallow lakes bounded by rushes, reeds and jungle-like swamps are the perfect habitat for wildfowl.
