During the siege of Paris by the Prussian army in 1870, Léon Gambetta, the minister for the interior, attempted to escape the city in a hot air balloon with the aim of moving the government out of the capital city and into Tours. The connection between the two cities, of course, is an ancient and close one. As the crow flies, there are only 204km between them.
As bad luck would have it, wayward winds blew Gambetta off course,
