Love Embroidery

Megan Griffiths

For illustrator Megan Griffiths, embroidery is a logical extension of her gentle and detailed folk style of painting. The Falmouth University graduate started experimenting with embroidery while she was studying in 2012 and found that having two creative outlets heightened her imagination and productivity. “Embroidery and illustration are intrinsically linked, with pattern and character being the main themes,” says Megan. “Being multi-disciplined allows me to stay creative in most moods.”

Her characters are magical, almost medieval-looking in their charming naivety, and festively embellished, which gave her the opportunity for “flowery, twinkly painting”. So, it seems almost pre-destined that Megan’s dream project would be to bring her skills together for a more time consuming piece: creating an embroidered and painted book inspired by old tapestries to retell the story. We can already see it!
