Emperor Norton Graces Final Issue of ‘Coin Press’ Magazine

When I started collecting, one of my first purchases was a set of four or five years’worth of volumes of the Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine. Some of the issues, from the early 1960s, had a column I enjoyed by James McGregor, “The Confidential Adventures of Mark Mintmorgan.” It featured a fictitious “private numismatic eye.” Coin Press magazine and early issues of Coins had a similar, if quaint, column by Jim Whalen, revolving around the oft misunderstood fictional character, “Mr. Moneypenny.”
