Clever enough, in fact, that it didn’t merely echo the formulas and tones of 1975’s it cut and had refined psychedelia into grander statements that hovered above – rather than at the centre of – prog rock, was a cultured take on the synthetic sheen of the 80s; sleek-shelled but containing meat.
