With quiet dignity, the Queen led the nation’s tribute to the fallen last week as she made a hugely significant visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey.
In the majestic surroundings of a building so closely connected to her own life, the monarch, 94 – pictured for the first time wearing a face mask – bowed her head to honour all those killed while serving their country, as a floral tribute inspired by her wedding bouquet was laid on the plain black gravestone lined with poppies.
