HATCHING A PLAN

A regular on the pages of MiniWorld, Terry Cheverall has built a range of weird and wonderful Minis. His bread and butter work is restoring classic cars in Basildon, Essex, but in his spare time he enjoys building unique Minis with his dad, Andrew. Minis built by them, which have graced our pages, include a six-wheeled Pick-up and a four-door Mini saloon. This 1970 Mini Clubman has a very clever rear windscreen hatch that was built for taking part in the Italian Job tour (www.italianjobtours.co.uk) that visits iconic locations from the 1969 film. “I purposely built this for doing The Italian Job tour as it’s so easy for getting luggage in and out via the tailgate,” he explains. “I’ve done the trip twice and absolutely love it.”

Terry felt that a purpose-built Mini would enhance his enjoyment of the trip and decided to build this Clubman with the aforementioned hatch. A master with an angle grinder and a welding torch, he cut out the rear windscreen
