RAINBOW CAMPAIGN

WITH CAMPAIGNING for the November 3 Madhya Pradesh by-elections in its final phase, the ruling BJP’s strategy has undergone a visible change in structure and pitch. The bypolls, which are being touted as the biggest in the state’s history, will determine whether the BJP continues to govern or hands the reins back to the Congress party. The BJP, which has 107 MLAs in the 230-member assembly, needs to win only eight of the 28 by-election seats to secure a majority on its own. With a strength of 87 in the assembly, the Congress faces the uphill task of securing victories in all 28 seats to return to power by itself.

The BJP, though, is aiming beyond continuance.
